Young

Pastor Marquis S. Young was born in Milwaukee, WI.  He spent the first 12 years of his life living on the city’s north side before relocating to Madison, WI with his mother. He lived there until he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the all-male historical black school of Morehouse College.

While living in Atlanta, GA, Marquis was refilled with the gift of the Holy Ghost in 2001. Later that year, he was baptized in Jesus’ Name at watch night service by his Spiritual Father in the gospel, Bishop Eugene Johnson at Madison Pentecostal Assembly (MPA).

​

While in Atlanta, GA, Marquis attended Emmanuel Temple Holiness Church (2002 - 2006) under the leadership of Late Bishop Calvin L. McDaniel, Sr. and was trained as a deacon, served as a youth Sunday school teacher, an usher, and choir member. Elder Young returned to Madison in 2006 to marry his high school sweetheart, Erica.

 

Since November 2014, Elder Young has been an active member of GBTWM. He served on various committees under the leadership of the late Bishop Samuel D. Rogers, until his retirement in 2017.  Under the 2 year assignment as the interim pastor, late Bishop Emeritus Charles J. Foye, at GBTWM Elder Young served as the Lead Associate Pastor.  On Friday, November 30, 2018, exactly sixteen years from of the dedication service of GBTWM’s new sanctuary, the congregation elected Elder Marquis Young as the Pastor. 

 

Elder Young is a civil engineer by profession, holding a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics from Morehouse College and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He serves as the Traffic Incident Management Engineer for the state of Wisconsin and gives God glory for his accomplishments. Elder Young knows his education and career belongs to God and it is a testament that God can do anything, considering when he was a child doctors claimed he would never function to full capacity following a near fatal accident.

 

Elder Young and his wife, Erica have been married for 16 years and have two wonderful children, Amaya and Marquis II.
